Mass media are a powerful way of production and reproduction of culture, because they transmit large discourses and ideologies of the population through social representations that insistently present .
Some of these representations are related to gender, power relations and violence against women.
Social representations that create media communication on women reproduce the androcentrismo and the dominant patriarchy and become, so, in breeding and doers of violence against women.
As stated above, the mass media are forming opinions, desires, beliefs and representations.
But they are responding to the interests of patriarchy dominant.
They are stereotyped women under the prototypes built by the androcentrismo.
Violence against women and girls is the mechanism used by men to ensure maintenance power and
enjoyment of privileges. Beauty ideals conveyed by the media foster
ideological  discrimination towards
people who do not meet them , which, when put into practice , is expressed in the different types of violence :
violence against the bodies of women, to their minds and to their feelings.
And , worst of all , it is expressed such violence is difficult to perceive, because it is based and justified.
